During the offseason, Reggie Jackson signed a new two-year, $21.6 million contract with the LA Clippers.
As key piece of the Clippers core that’s looking to win a title, bringing Jackson back in free agency was a priority given his stature as one of the team’s best players last season.
At this moment, the Athledex platform projects Jackson’s Real-Time Contract Value to be $31.45 million, while his team contract is $11.22 million this season.
Why is this a good deal for Los Angeles? Jackson is not only one of the team’s best scorers, but he’s a legitimate lead guard that can facilitate and hold his own while Paul George and Kawhi Leonard get hot.
Microwave Scorer
Like most of his teammates, Jackson has gotten off to a slow start this season, but he’s a scoring machine liable to go off at any moment. Just last season, Jackson produced 16.8 points while also dishing out 4.3 assists per game to teammates for buckets.
Admittedly, Jackson isn’t the most consistent scorer, but he has an extremely high ceiling for production each game that should not be discounted. In Jackson, the Clippers have an athlete that can be a primary scorer when needed, and produces in big contests.
Playoff Performer
During his last three postseason appearances, Jackson has shot better than 40% from deep, including over 50% in 2020 playoffs. Furthermore, he’s averaged more than 17 points per contest in two of his last three playoff runs.
In fact, the last time the Clippers made the postseason, he was their third-leading scorer. This is especially impressive considering Jackson plays alongside multiple stars.
Great System Fit
Since Joining Clippers, Jackson has only gotten consistently better. It’s clear that he’s a great fit in this team’s system, as he’s had some of his most productive years in Los Angeles.
Jackson emerged as the starting point guard for the Clippers early in his time with the team, and is now established as one of their top players. He truly understands his role and how he fits into what they need to do in order to succeed.
Durable and Reliable
Outside of the year he was traded mid-season, Jackson has played in at least 65 games in three-straight seasons. He’s a durable player that really doesn’t miss too many games.
This is especially important on a team like the Clippers that constantly faces injury issues on the roster. Jackson is good enough to keep the team afloat when the roster is depleted.
