How does ProFitX Define and/or Quantify “Real-Time Contract Analysis?
By Nick Russo – 4/21/22 If you’ve heard of ProFitX, you’ve almost certainly heard of our use of “Real-Time Contract.” But, what exactly does that mean? How is it calculated? More importantly, how can this tool be used? Today, we’ll be exploring the answer to these questions, through the lens of our “Contract Analysis” model. Luka Doncic’s Real-Time Contract Values, Compared to his Team Contract, since 2018-2019 In the NBA, players often far out play, or far under play, their salaries during a respective season that they are under contract for. Luka Doncic’s salary this season is $10,174,319. However, his real-time contract is $43,072,563. Therefore, Doncic is outplaying this season’s salary by a staggering amount: $32,898,244. Moreover, it is clear that, since his rookie season, Luka Doncic has far outplayed his rookie-scale contract, each year. Additionally, you can also see Doncic’s improvement, year by year, as implied in the consistent rise in his real-time contract. Luka Doncic’s Real-Time Contract Values since 2018-2019 Speaking of improvement, this graph shows Doncic’s real-time contract value at any given day since his first game in the NBA in 2018-2019. While the point guard’s value is at an all-time high as of February 2022, you can see that Doncic was hovering around the high $30M-low $40M since last season. It can be inferred from this graph that his greatest improvement came during his rookie season, and since then, has steadily improved his play each season. Chart, line chart Description automatically generated Luka Doncic’s Real-Time Contract Values, Compared to his Team Contract, From 2018-2019, with Projections for 2022-2024. Looking to the future, ProFitX takes into account player development and current level of play when projecting values for upcoming seasons. Having access to this information can provide insight to agents, teams, journalists, social media accounts, fantasy players, gamblers, and even the everyday fan. Miles Bridges’ Projected Contract for 2022 Free Agency Agents: Real-time contract value can help assist in determining the proper market value of a client. Take Miles Bridges, as an example. Bridges will enter restricted free agency this summer, seeking the first major contract of his promising career. ProFitX projects the forward to continue his level of play this season into next, and the following season. With that in mind, the software expects Bridges to command a salary of $28,222,983, with a high of $32,112,014, and a low of $24,333,952. This can be useful for agents as they can point to an objective source of information in player evaluation, when negotiating average salary. ProFitX even forecasts what a potential contract may look like, with year by year cumulative value.   Teams: Similarly to agents, the model can help a team in evaluating a player. This can be used to help shape offers to free agents, furthering efficient roster building around the salary cap. Particularly, from a team perspective, the tool can help identify players who are outplaying their contracts, and on the contrary, players who have expensive contracts, yet are playing subpar to them. This can be useful when reviewing roster building strategy. For instance, imagine a team deploys a certain strategy in an offseason, and signs multiple players to deals. That following season, based on real-time contract and future projections, a team can determine if their strategy was effective in identifying players who can come at a low cost, yet produce at a high level. Of course, this tool would also be useful in crafting trades with other teams, to maximize return packages. Journalists and Social Media Accounts: As a journalist or social media account, one basically has the discretion in creating narratives surrounding the NBA, over a plethora of topics. Having access to real-time contract value can provide another analytical tool in doing so, to establish credibility behind your claims. As seen above, ProFitX was used in a way to craft a narrative around the Miami Heat. In this case, it sought to commend the crafty team construction of Pat Riley. Real-Time Contract Value would be useful in a number of areas, including but not limited to: grading team signings, grading team trades, grading signings from an agent perspective, making free agent contract predictions, showcasing overperformers and underperformers, and demonstrating the value of a player to a team, perhaps by comparing the real-time contract values of each player on a team. The possibilities are endless. Fantasy Players and Gamblers: The biggest upside to real-time contract value from the perspective of fantasy basketball players and those interested in betting is the insight provided by ProFitX’s projections into the future. For example, when drafting a fantasy team, having the ability to see what players the software believes will break out or regress can help you in your draft night decisions. The same can be said for gamblers, except those same insights can help in your decision making for bets such as those on season awards, such as most improved player, MVP, Sixth Man of the Year, etc. The Everyday Fan: Lastly, if you fit into none of the aforementioned groups of people, ProFitX provides an affordable, yet entertaining and informative analytical software. The “Contract Analysis” model can help one understand the landscape of the NBA, especially from a front office point of view, which in turn would promote more engaging conversations with friends and other ecstatic fans of the league.
