Catalyst of Success: Jordan Clarkson is Critical Piece for Utah Jazz

One of the teams that has exceeded expectations in the 2022-23 season is the Utah Jazz.

After trading away their two franchise cornerstones during the offseason in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, they’re on track to win just eight fewer games year-over-year. This is primarily due to having a deep roster filled with talent during the accumulation of assets in the offseason. However, one of the primary catalysts of this Jazz team being extremely competitive is a player that’s been on the roster for a while now.

Jordan Clarkson is in fourth season with the Jazz and is having a career year. Through 60 games thus far, he’s started in every single one and has averaged a career-high 20.9 points per contest. The microwave scorer is also pulling down four rebounds and dishing out over four assists per game. This spectacular play has resulted in Clarkson’s ProFitX projected real-time contract value to be roughly double what Utah is paying him. As of today’s we model his value at over $26 million based on what he’s providing on the court.

These statistics really show just how impactful he is to the offensive side of the ball. He’s second on the Jazz in both scoring and in assists this season. He’s able to generate a ton of points for the team, which is why he’s tagged as a quality playmaker and scorer in the Athledex. He’s a significant reason the Jazz have a top five offense on the season.

When Clarkson is on the floor, the Jazz are simply a better team. These are the types of players teams want as contributors to winning. Stats aside, it’s easy to see that Clarkson is a critical piece to Utah’s success all season long. With the regular season quickly coming to a close, the Jazz have a chance to make the postseason. It will take an impressive effort down the stretch, and Clarkson will be a key stabilizing veteran.

If Utah continues winning at this pace and makes the playoffs, it will almost certainly be in large part due to what he’s able to do on the offensive end as a catalyst.
